Our senses are bombarded on a daily basis. Especially over the past few years, many of us are constantly in a state of 'fight or flight' response. As a result our bodies and minds can feel overwhelmed and anxiety filled on a daily basis. This workshop is an introductory educational and experiential workshop for how your psyche and nervous system work and how to work with them to maintain and ease that feeling of bring overwhelmed, stress and anxiety. 

Kate Nolan, a licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, and Becky Mocarski, a registered Yoga Instructor with a background in trauma informed yoga, will be teaching various ways to help us calm down in even the most anxious moments. They will have an open discussion about what happens to our nervous system in these situations and offer sensory ways to release and reset ourselves. Using sensory modalities like smell, touch, and sound can help us get grounded in heightened scenarios. This workshop will not only demonstrate how to use these sensory tools but you will get to try them all in real time, often combining things like breath and scent to see how it makes you feel. By the time you leave you will have a better understanding of ways to reset as well as a handful of simple, daily practices to start doing right away.

From our breath, to movement, to a strong scent.....we will explore our unique ways to tune in 'When We Need to Calm Down'. You'll leave the workshop with physical and mental tools to cope with stress & anxiety, and with a personalized kit to utilize in moments of anxiousness.

About your instructors: 

Kate (she/her) is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and a Registered Yoga Teacher.  She has nearly 15 years experience in the mental health field, specializing in anxiety, depression and trauma.  For the past several years, Kate has integrated mindfulness and yoga techniques into her work with children.  She is very excited to be working with Becky to bring this amazing workshop to Wildlight!

Becky (she/her) has been a yoga instructor for over ten years with additional trainings in specialties such as Trauma Informed Yoga. She is no stranger to anxiety and is open about her curiosity to find a ways to calm herself in the midst of panic attacks she suffered for years. Through modalities such as breath, yoga, and journaling she is excited to hear from others and let them know we are all in this together. She will be offering ways to use yoga poses, mantras, and breath to find  calm in each day.
