Acerca del evento

Come embrace the hibernation of winter with a quiet practice designed to help you power down, release fear and fatigue, and learn the joy of non-doing through a 2 hour, candle-lit winter practice.

In Taoist Yoga and Traditional Chinese Medicine, winter is the season associated with the element of water. Water and winter are both yin in principle. They behave in a yin way and invite us to do the same. It is a season of slowing, stoppage, even death. It is North in the Taoist compass. The organs associated with winter and water are the kidney and the bladder, and this season invites us to attend to fear, stress, and fatigue.

Yin yoga is a slow-paced style that emphasizes stretching the connective tissues of the body--the ligaments, joints, bones, and fascia. It combines deep fascial network stretching with a targeted approach that also stimulates the meridians of the body. It incorporates long holds (3-5 minutes) and deep breathing in seated and supine positions. Props are used and participants are encouraged to find the way that the pose wants to rest in their body. As Dr. Kate likes to say, "You may not sweat in Yin, but you will work something out."

Students are encouraged to show up as they are and to feel into the moment. Option to bring a journal, your favorite pen to write with and an object of spiritual significance or that represents how you are coming to the retreat. Yogis of all levels welcome!
