In Taoist Yoga and Traditional Chinese Medicine, winter is the season associated with the element of water. Water and winter are both yin in principle. They behave in a yin way and invite us to do the same. It is a season of slowing, stoppage, even death. It is North in the Taoist compass. The organs associated with winter and water are the kidney and the bladder, and this season invites us to attend to fear, stress, and fatigue.
Yin yoga is a slow-paced style that emphasizes stretching the connective tissues of the body--the ligaments, joints, bones, and fascia. It combines deep fascial network stretching with a targeted approach that also stimulates the meridians of the body.…
