Goddess Mama Gathering: Khalsa Way Prenatal Yoga

https___cdn.evbuc.com_images_60069648_267674657720_1_original.jpg

Mammas-To-Be, this workshop is for you! Whether you are a first-time mamma or you have a growing family - come connect with other women during this sacred time when not only your body is changing but your identity is shifting as you prepare for motherhood.

Khalsa Way Prenatal Yoga is a yoga for mammas-to-be, inspired by Kundalini Yoga. Each class is a mix of meditation and movement designed to help ease discomfort, intentionally incorporates dance and potential birthing postures to build stamina, and includes specific meditations so the future mamma can begin to cultivate a toolkit of self-care and self-regulation strategies before the little one arrives. We’ll explore each element of this type of prenatal yoga class, its benefit, and participants will have time to ask questions and network during communi-TEA time.

The time together will include:

- space for Goddess Mammas to share their pregnancy journey

- Khalsa Way Prenatal Yoga Warms Ups & Movement

- Kundalini Keep Up, Dance, & Deep Relaxation

- Mantras & 3-minute Meditations for your mamma toolkit

(Optional) Communi-Tea Time

Elizabeth Bogart found Kundalini Yoga (or Kundalini Yoga first found her) when she was living in India in 2008. She practiced several different types of yoga, but it wasn't until she tried Kundalini that she felt "clean" after a class. It felt like brushing her teeth but for her brain. Her brain, body, and spirit felt sparkly, shiny, new, and oddly more whole.

It is her hope that each class offers an opportunity for students to clear away the static of everyday living and return to their true essence, so they can dive back into their lives feeling more whole, alive, and themselves.

She studied at the Kundalini Research Institute in Espanola, New Mexico. Elizabeth has studied with Gurmukh and is certified to teach Khalsa Way Prenatal Yoga, received her 200 RYT certification from Zen Yoga Garage, and has taught kids yoga for nearly five years. Once upon a time, she was a Special Education Teacher and the lessons learned in her first year of teaching still guide everything she does today.

No experience necessary. Wear comfortable clothing you feel graceful in. Mats and props provided by Wildlight Yoga, 4140 N. Milwaukee Ave.

Admission is $25. Pre-registration required. Members receive 10% discount. No refunds or credits.

Deep dive into the yogic tradition by joining Wildlight's Book Club with Sarah Landicho.

Our first selection will be "The Living Gita" by Sri Swami Satchidananda

As this commentary is specifically written for modern Western readers, this ancient Eastern text of the Bhagavad Gita (Song of God) comes to life for us here in the States. The Gita is the story of Arjuna, who is struggling with an epic war against family and friends, and his charioteer Krishna. Krishna, the Cosmic Lord, offers Arjuna insight into rising above his own humanity and frailties and teaches him how to tap into his inner guide: his Self.

Together we will break down the tale, the commentary, and the yogic terminology and discuss how the story is an allegory for everyday life. Additionally, we'll learn a lot about yoga.

There will be assigned reading for each of the four meet ups (sanghas) so please come prepared to discuss and ask questions.

First assignment: read through Chapter 5 before the first club meeting. Taking notes and preparing for discussion is highly recommended.

Cash donations will be freely accepted and forwarded to the Irving Park Food Pantry as seva (service) to our neighbors.

Here Comes the Sun: 108 Sun Salutes for Summer Solstice

Join our Reiki Master + Yoga Teacher, Cassie Zehren, in a meditative practice of 108 sun salutations to celebrate the Summer Solstice. In this physically challenging class, you'll learn the symbolism and meaning of 108. This heat-building meditation helps us detoxify, reground, and activate our prana, or life force, as we move buried emotions out of the body and let go of what no longer serves us.

The practice of Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskaras) honors the change of seasons and the transitions of nature’s sun and earth energy. These Surya Namaskaras also help remove toxins in the body as summer arrives and we cleanse. Surya Namaskar means “obedience to the sun.” We honor the significance of the sun, the light of the world and our primary source of energy.

The class will conclude with a guided meditation and Reiki. Coming together in this way is a very powerful experience of raising prana for yourself and the group as a whole. Treat yourself & participate in this uplifting experience, you won’t regret it.

Mats and props will be provided at Wildlight Yoga, 4140 N. Milwaukee Ave. Admission is $30 in advance. $40 day of. Members receive 10% off. No refunds or credits.

Living Deeply: Clearing Childhood Patterns

https___cdn.evbuc.com_images_62477420_267674657720_1_original.jpg

In this world, which can feel rough at times, how do we strive to find meaning and live deeply and connected to ourselves and others. As part of this, how do we lean into our challenges and begin to overcome patterns that we took on in childhood that can end up impacting our every day lives?

In this workshop, through deep work focused on self-love and our journey inward, including voice and embodiment exercises, activations and powerful tools, we'll begin to shift and clear these childhood patterns and open to the life that's calling to us.

You'll leave feeling more calm, clear, and open, with a fresh perspective, rooted in taking your next step towards finding meaning and living deeply in this life.

About Deborah

Deborah learned a long time ago that the key to true joy meant moving away from it. She realized at an early age, that running away from herself, her emotions ,and her pain only caused more of it, and the only true way out is in. She now coaches women to know true joy, no matter what's occurring, and most importantly, to celebrate and relish in this crazy, juicy, up and down thing we call life.

When she's not clearing energy blocks and childhood patterns or writing for The Huffington Post and Elephant Journal, you can find Deborah working out and traveling the world. To find out more about Deb, visit her at deborahhacker.com.

Admission is $30 in advance. $35 day of. Members receive 10% off. No refunds or credits.

Kundalini Yoga + Communi-Tea Time

https___cdn.evbuc.com_images_58258315_267674657720_1_original.jpg

Ready to try a different kind of yoga? Join us for a Kundalini Yoga Workshop. Known as the Yoga of Experience, Kundalini Yoga is a system of pressure and release. Each kriya (or set of movement) is like a recipe designed to have a specific impact on the physical and energetic body. Each person will have their own unique experience - as each person is walking in with their own unique energy. No previous experience required.

We'll have 90-minutes of movement and meditation. Students are invited to stay for an optional 30 minute tea time to learn more about this dynamic practice and share your individual experiences.

Intro to Meditation

https___cdn.evbuc.com_images_58853066_267674657720_1_original.jpg

“No matter which path you follow for meditation, the first and foremost task is to try to make the mind calm and quiet. If the mind is constantly roaming, if it falls victim to merciless thoughts, then progress will be hard to access. The mind has to be made calm and quiet so that when the light descends from above, you can be fully conscious of it. In your conscious observation and conscious acceptance of light, you will enter into a profound meditation and see the purification, transformation, and illumination of your life.”

– Sri Chinmoy

Do you want to start a meditation practice? Do you want to explore new ways to meditate and deepen your practice? Do you want to slow down and learn to deal with your daily stress? Do you want to know yourself more authentically, feel greater spaciousness and self-awareness, feel more real and alive?

Meditation is our attempt to discover our inner self, a place beyond the usual workings of the intellectual mind. When we experience real meditation we become aware of the infinite within and our own unexpected wealth of divine qualities like peace and inner joy.

Join Reiki Master/Teacher and yoga teacher Cassie for a 90 min workshop exploring how to jumpstart your own meditation practice. Class with include practicing what you have learned with a guided meditation and optional Reiki will be offered to enhance your intentions set for your practice.

Burn Clean: Yin Yoga for Anger

https___cdn.evbuc.com_images_57412410_267674657720_1_original.jpg

Let's face it: if you're human, you are no stranger to anger. Yogis included. Anger is a secondary emotion that signals that something is amiss. In Buddhist teaching we learn that we have to sit in the fire of that anger to deal with the pain. In doing so, we burn clean. In this two hour workshop led by Dr. Kate Lassiter, RYT-200, yogis will have the opportunity to burn clean through a yin yoga practice and guided inquiry designed to tap into the places in our body where anger and pain are stored. Come get yourself clean.

Restorative Yoga + Reiki for Vernal Equinox

https___cdn.evbuc.com_images_55478768_267674657720_1_original.jpg

Spring is an opportunity for renewal and rebirth—for planting seeds to nurture, and to witness the unending cycle of grow and change.

In the Northern Hemisphere on March 20, the Vernal Equinox has been honored for thousands of years as a celebration of life and fertility; a time for striking a balance between yin and yang—and as a “spring cleaning” of stagnant energy that has been stored over the long, dark and cold winter months.

This restorative yoga sequence is designed to facilitate that awakening; to gather and draw energy inward, and then release it outwardly as a metaphorical planting of seeds. Class will conclude with a reiki guided mediation to help students set their intentions of planting those seeds.
