Restorative Yoga + Reiki for Vernal Equinox

https___cdn.evbuc.com_images_55478768_267674657720_1_original.jpg

Spring is an opportunity for renewal and rebirth—for planting seeds to nurture, and to witness the unending cycle of grow and change.

In the Northern Hemisphere on March 20, the Vernal Equinox has been honored for thousands of years as a celebration of life and fertility; a time for striking a balance between yin and yang—and as a “spring cleaning” of stagnant energy that has been stored over the long, dark and cold winter months.

This restorative yoga sequence is designed to facilitate that awakening; to gather and draw energy inward, and then release it outwardly as a metaphorical planting of seeds. Class will conclude with a reiki guided mediation to help students set their intentions of planting those seeds.

No experience necessary. Mats and props will be provided at Wildlight Yoga, 4140 N. Milwaukee Ave.

Admission is $25. Pre-registration required. Members receive 10% off. No refunds or credits.

Deep dive into the yogic tradition by joining Wildlight's Book Club with Sarah Landicho.

Our first selection will be "The Living Gita" by Sri Swami Satchidananda

As this commentary is specifically written for modern Western readers, this ancient Eastern text of the Bhagavad Gita (Song of God) comes to life for us here in the States. The Gita is the story of Arjuna, who is struggling with an epic war against family and friends, and his charioteer Krishna. Krishna, the Cosmic Lord, offers Arjuna insight into rising above his own humanity and frailties and teaches him how to tap into his inner guide: his Self.

Together we will break down the tale, the commentary, and the yogic terminology and discuss how the story is an allegory for everyday life. Additionally, we'll learn a lot about yoga.

There will be assigned reading for each of the four meet ups (sanghas) so please come prepared to discuss and ask questions.

First assignment: read through Chapter 5 before the first club meeting. Taking notes and preparing for discussion is highly recommended.

Burn Clean: Yin Yoga for Anger

https___cdn.evbuc.com_images_57412410_267674657720_1_original.jpg

Let's face it: if you're human, you are no stranger to anger. Yogis included. Anger is a secondary emotion that signals that something is amiss. In Buddhist teaching we learn that we have to sit in the fire of that anger to deal with the pain. In doing so, we burn clean. In this two hour workshop led by Dr. Kate Lassiter, RYT-200, yogis will have the opportunity to burn clean through a yin yoga practice and guided inquiry designed to tap into the places in our body where anger and pain are stored. Come get yourself clean.

Intro to Meditation

https___cdn.evbuc.com_images_58853066_267674657720_1_original.jpg

“No matter which path you follow for meditation, the first and foremost task is to try to make the mind calm and quiet. If the mind is constantly roaming, if it falls victim to merciless thoughts, then progress will be hard to access. The mind has to be made calm and quiet so that when the light descends from above, you can be fully conscious of it. In your conscious observation and conscious acceptance of light, you will enter into a profound meditation and see the purification, transformation, and illumination of your life.”

– Sri Chinmoy

Do you want to start a meditation practice? Do you want to explore new ways to meditate and deepen your practice? Do you want to slow down and learn to deal with your daily stress? Do you want to know yourself more authentically, feel greater spaciousness and self-awareness, feel more real and alive?

Meditation is our attempt to discover our inner self, a place beyond the usual workings of the intellectual mind. When we experience real meditation we become aware of the infinite within and our own unexpected wealth of divine qualities like peace and inner joy.

Join Reiki Master/Teacher and yoga teacher Cassie for a 90 min workshop exploring how to jumpstart your own meditation practice. Class with include practicing what you have learned with a guided meditation and optional Reiki will be offered to enhance your intentions set for your practice.

Kundalini Yoga

Ready to try a different kind of yoga? Join us for a Kundalini Yoga Workshop. Known as the Yoga of Experience, Kundalini Yoga is a system of pressure and release. Each kriya (or set of movement) is like a recipe designed to have a specific impact on the physical and energetic body. Each person will have their own unique experience - as each person is walking in with their own unique energy. No previous experience required.

We'll have 90-minutes of movement and meditation. During the last half hour, we'll gather around for tea to learn more about this dynamic practice and share your individual experiences.

Elizabeth Bogart found Kundalini Yoga (or Kundalini Yoga first found her) when she was living in India in 2008. She practiced several different types of yoga, but it wasn't until she tried Kundalini that she felt "clean" after a class. It felt like brushing her teeth but for her brain. Her brain, body, and spirit felt sparkly, shiny, new, and oddly more whole.

It is her hope that each class offers an opportunity for students to clear away the static of everyday living and return to their true essence, so they can dive back into their lives feeling more whole, alive, and themselves.

She studied at the Kundalini Research Institute in Espanola, New Mexico. Elizabeth has studied with Gurmukh and is certified to teach Khalsa Way Prenatal Yoga, received her 200 RYT certification from Zen Yoga Garage, and has taught kids yoga for nearly five years. Once upon a time, she was a Special Education Teacher and the lessons learned in her first year of teaching still guide everything she does today.

Galentine's Candle Making + Yoga

https___cdn.evbuc.com_images_53932233_267674657720_1_original.jpg

Grab your closest gals for a cozy night of interactive candle-making and hatha yoga in the candle light.

Chicago candle-maker Jessica Snively will teach you everything you need to know to make a soy wax candle in a reused or vintage container. You'll create your own signature fragrance from a blend of scented soy-based oils. As the candles are setting, Wildlight Yoga owner + teacher, Kelli Wefenstette, will lead you in a 60-minute gentle Hatha practice. All are welcome

All the supplies are provided, including wax and fragrance oils. You can bring your own container or purchase one on-site. You’ll get 1 lb. of wax, and depending on the size of your container(s), you’ll leave with 1–2 completed candles. (For reference, 16 oz. of wax will fill a container approximately the size of a standard can of veggies.) Jessica's poured candles in nearly everything that can be described as a “container”—quirkier finds have included a glass cowboy boot, vintage egg cup, honey bear jar, and mug that says “He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother”—so feel free to go on a thrift-shopping spree before class.

Hot tea + allergy-free treats will be served. Students are welcome to bring wine.

Admission is $50. Pre-registration is required. Members receive 10% off. No refunds.

https_%2F%2Fcdn.evbuc.com%2Fimages%2F53282135%2F267674657720%2F1%2Foriginal.jpg

“The more light you allow within you, the brighter the world you live in will be.” — Shakti Gawain

Winter can be the busiest time of the year. For most of us, what the body, mind, and spirit really wants to do is slow down & turn inward. You may find your inner world in a bit of tension. Carve out time for this yoga practice. Setting intentions will ignite your passions and encourage your true self to shine brightly. That’s why it’s more important than ever to embrace positivity at this time of year and let our inner light shine through the darkness. When our own light shines bright, we encourage everybody else to shine their own light more brightly too.

Join Reiki Master + yoga teacher Cassie Zehren for a 90m Mindful Movement + Meditation + Reiki class. Students are guided through a sequence of yoga poses that emphasize meditative movement. Class concludes with a guided meditation and Reiki. Creating a bit of that inner heat to take with you off your mat and loving our own light by adoring our own true self is the key to brightening winter. Give yourself the gift of this evening. You are worth it.
