Job Description:

Wildlight Yoga seeks enthusiastic, qualified part-time yoga teachers to join our team and teach 2-10 classes per week. This position reports to the Studio Manager. This position involves group and individualized instruction, frequent interaction with the public and businesses, and occasionally sitting at a desk. Light bookkeeping is required. The ability to lift up to 25lbs is preferred.

Our Yoga Instructors will share our mission and philosophy through instructing high-quality, fun, accessible yoga classes, retreats, and adventures. Teaching classes, providing excellent customer service, and exhibiting and modeling utmost respect and studio leadership are all required for success in this position. We seek instructors who are trained to help to enhance students’ practices in each and every class by providing modified postures, the use of props such as blankets, blocks, bolsters, straps, or chairs, and hands-on assists when given consent. Our team is comprised of those who are dedicated, honest, kind, intelligent individuals who are passionate about sharing the benefits of yoga as a lifestyle and journey.

Special consideration will be given to those with training and experience teaching Ashtanga, Hatha, Kundalini, Vinyasa, and Yin as well as those with experience teaching gentle, post-injury, senior, children, family, and prenatal classes.

Applicants who are unable to teach a minimum of 2 classes per week may apply as a substitute teacher.

Wildlight Yoga is an adventure-inspired studio that promotes the exploration of yoga as a journey and lifestyle through high quality, fun, and accessible yoga classes and retreats for students of all experiences.

About our Studio:
Wildlight Yoga encourages awakening, authenticity, and adventure through the transformative practice and lifestyle of yoga. We are an adventure-inspired yoga studio located in the Portage Park neighborhood of Chicago offering high-quality, fun, accessible yoga classes and retreats for students of all experiences. We will open in September 2018.

Responsibilities:

  1. Teach high quality, accessible classes

    1. Guide yoga instruction for scheduled group classes.

    2. Adhere to length of class reflected on schedule.

    3. Prepare class according to format and level guidelines.

    4. Utilize appropriate music for class, when applicable

    5. Engage in opportunities to lead workshops and private instruction as requested.
       

  2. Create a warm and welcoming studio environment

    1. Arrive early and prepare studio for class

    2. Greet every new or returning student by name upon check in

    3. Welcome new students into the studio + give them a tour

    4. Answer questions in a sensitive + compassionate manner
       

  3. Serve as the key ambassador for Wildlight Yoga

    1. Practice and model a yogic lifestyle

    2. Communicate, demonstrate, and live out Wildlight Yoga’s mission and values

    3. Gain personal experience by attending classes in each style, with each teacher

    4. Possess an in-depth understanding of classes, packages, benefits, and offerings

    5. Provide tailored recommendations for students based on their unique needs

  4. Serve as a dedicated team member of Wildlight community

    1. Sub classes for fellow teachers often and when possible.

    2. Provide feedback to continue to grow the studio, including ideas for new classes, workshops, passing along student feedback.

    3. Promote the studio and events by liking Wildlight Yoga posts and sharing Wildlight Yoga content on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram; contribute blog posts as applicable.

    4. Promote Wildlight Yoga mission inside and outside of class.
       

  5. Provide exemplary customer service

    1. Demonstrate an unwavering positive attitude in all circumstances

    2. Communicate effectively with Studio Manager + Owner

    3. Assist in coordinating class schedule + updating changes

    4. Open and/or close the studio in a punctual manner ensuring safety compliance

    5. Light cleaning and studio maintenance

  6. Other responsibilities not yet assigned

Requirements:

  • Verified 200-Hr Certification in the associated class format and additional training as appropriate.

  • Experience guiding pranayama and meditation in addition to asana.

  • Engaged in an active personal yoga practice and identifies as a student as well as teacher.

  • Devoted to continuing education and growing as a teacher through feedback.

  • Open to teaching all students.

  • Knowledgable regarding appropriate posture modifications.

  • Willingness to support student's practice with blocks, blankets, bolsters, and props.

  • Trained in skillful, intentional, appropriate hands-on assists.

  • CPR certified.

Additional Requirements:

  • Cleaning, administration, marketing, and studio assistance tasks may be available for teachers to perform to meet guaranteed rate in the event no students attend class.

  • Compensation starts at a base rate $30/class, with room for growth

  • Guaranteed rate (no students) for administrative tasks.

Compensation packages will be evaluated three months after hire date and annually then on.
